April 15, 1926 – July 5, 2021
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away peacefully on July 5, 2021, at the age of 95 years.
Amelia was born and raised on the family homestead east of Bowden, Alberta. After her own mother’s passing, Amelia had to leave school upon completing Grade 8 and became her father’s cook and housekeeper along with raising her younger brother Johnny. Amelia met Alfred Hammer at a Betchton School dance in 1945. They were married June 28, 1947. In those times, Amelia raised chickens and took great pride in tending a large garden and yard on the Hammer family farm. She was a wonderful cook and baker. A warm welcome with food and drinks were guaranteed to anyone who came to visit. Amelia was an active member of the Coburn W.I., the Royal Purple, and the C.W.L. She also liked to compete at the Olds Fair with sewing and baking items. She maintained a very social and active lifestyle, especially enjoying dancing, curling and card games.
Amelia will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son Eldon (Lynda) Hammer of Olds; daughter Grace (Chris) Little of Edmonton; niece Edna (Vance) van Dam of Didsbury; grandchildren Richard (Cyndi) Hofmann, Ame (Colin) Koples, Angela (Jeremy) Zyderveld; Jennifer Dubé, Chris (Candice) Hammer, Mark (Melissa) Hammer, David (Myriam) Little, Michael (Carla) Little, Patrick Little, Alison (Corbin) Little, Trent van Dam, Collin (Debbie) van Dam, Deanna van Dam; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
