June 5, 1940 – May 31, 2021
Lyla Peck passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021 after a brief illness.
She was born in Edmonton on June 5, 1940. She spent the early years of her life farming with her family in the Harmattan area. She met her future husband Jack, also from a local farming family, while still a teenager. They were married in 1959. In the early 60’s took up residence in Edmonton, relocated to Houston, TX for a period and then returned to Calgary in the early seventies.
Lyla enjoyed a successful career with the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service working in the wire tap divisions as a civilian member of both forces. Her passions in life included her family, her love for horses, dogs, gardening, golf and travel. Jack and Lyla were fortunate enough to enjoy a long and interesting retirement where they would summer in the Olds area and winter in south west Texas. Both Lyla and Jack enjoyed RVing all over the southern States even venturing into Mexico from time to time. The long list of friends acquired during these travels from all over North America is a testament to their ingratiating nature and Lyla’s easy ability to connect with others.
While this is a time of sadness and grief, it is also a time to celebrate a life well lived. Lyla enjoyed her life and lived it to the fullest and was quick to share that sense of joy and fun with those around her. She will be missed but not forgotten.
Lyla is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack of Olds; son Darren; daughter in-law Petra and granddaughters Samantha and Dallas, all from Calgary; brothers Michael of Olds and Harold of Fort St. John.
