Friends of Jan Truss wish to announce that Jan died in this, her 97th year, leaving from her beloved home in Water Valley, Alberta. Jan was able to remain in her familiar surroundings with the essential help of close neighbours, live-in care, and various friends who stopped in regularly for a spot of tea or some other beverage, and until near the end, stimulating and provocative conversations.
We talked of education, politics, and heard many of Jan’s childhood adventures from England and of her travels around the world. Jan lived her life with purpose, published many stories, and gave her time and attention to those of us who found her company and her cooking always inviting.
She is remembered for her forthright manner, her literary acuity, her generosity in sharing her land with those in need of a home, her art collection and her fashion style, ready for each day, come what may.
As Jan’s friends, we wish to create a lasting legacy of stories in her memory. We invite any of you, reading this announcement, to contribute a short story about how you knew Jan and what memories you wish to share. These can be written or visual accounts. Please send to Elizabeth, [email protected] or Jennie, [email protected]
