Cecile Emma Marie Wilcox passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24 th , 2022 at the age of
87 years at The Hamlets Assisted Living Centre in Red Deer, Alberta.
Cecile will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Deb Anderson (Len) and son, Rob Wilcox (Sandy).
She is also survived by her grandchildren Alison Cortes (Adolfo), Corey Anderson (Janet), Blair Anderson (Ali), Jessica Shaw (Derek), Evan Wilcox (Mikayla), and Eric Wilcox as well as her great-grandchildren Haley & Rachel Anderson; Shayne & Maddie Anderson, Dalyn & Bodhi Anderson; Adolfo Jr, William & Emily Cortes; Kesten, Lauren & Paige Shaw; Rhett Wilcox and son-in-law, Terry Jesse. Cecile is also survived by her brothers Aime Lehoux, Roger Lehoux, Robert Lehoux and sister, Jean Wickham along with their spouses and children. Cecile is also survived by many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Cecile was predeceased by her loving husband Eugene Wilcox in 2012 and her parents, Ulric and Alma, her step-dad Dave Adams, as well as her daughter Janette Jesse in 2001, her sisters Angeline and Alice, her brothers Eugene, Leon, Marcel, Andrew, Raymond, Henry, Phillip and two other brothers at birth.
Cecile was born on August 31, 1935 at Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan to Ulric and Alma Lehoux. Cecile was named after one of the famous quintuplets at that time. Cecile left home at a very young age and met a wonderful man named Eugene Wilcox. At the age of 17 yrs, Cecile married Eugene on March 7, 1953 in Edmonton, Alberta and were married for 59 years. Together they raised three children: Janette, Debra and Robert. The family moved to Bowden, Alberta in 1965 where Eugene owned and operated his stucco business with Cecile as the homemaker and bookkeeper. She also worked many years at the Alberta Nurseries & Seeds in Bowden, Alberta. Cecile was a wonderful cook who often had guests stop in unannounced, conveniently at suppertime! She was a very talented artist, seamstress and crocheted many projects, including doilies, throughout her years. Her talents were endless when it came to sewing! She was also well-known for her painted rocks that she often gave away as gifts and are still treasured by many to this day. In earlier years, she enjoyed camping, lots of fishing and just being in the outdoors. She loved gardening and going to lots of garage sales. Cecile was a strong-willed woman with a spunky personality and had a heart of gold for her loved ones. Cecile was a very dedicated caregiver for her husband Eugene after he had his stroke in 1995 and without her regimented schedule for him, her family would not have been blessed with 17 more years with their Dad/Grandad.
Cecile moved from Bowden, Alberta to Poplar Grove Court in Innisfail, Alberta to be closer to Eugene while he was living at the Rosefield Centre and then she moved to the Autumn Glen Lodge. In May of 2019, she moved to The Hamlets Assisted Living in Red Deer, Alberta as her health had declined. There she received great care and enjoyed the meals and activities they provided for her…and that said a lot! She was a well-liked resident there and she herself enjoyed living at The Hamlets and remained there until her passing. She will be sadly missed by her family… and never forgotten.
A Memorial tea to celebrate Cecile’s life will be held at the Bowden Friendship Centre, Bowden, Alberta from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 10 th , 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bowden Paterson Community Centre in Bowden, Alberta (Bowden Expanding Horizons) in her memory.
