The community has a new playground structure at Ralph Maybank Park thanks to the efforts of the Olds Kiwanis Club and local volunteers.
The club partnered with The Playground Guys, a division of the Sweetman Group, and the Town of Olds to replace an existing wooden playground structure at the park on 50 Avenue with a new structure that includes a climbing wall, slides and monkey bars as well as adjacent benches and picnic tables.
Carol Johnston, the club's past-president, said 20 volunteers came out between August 13 and 15 to set up the structure, which cost roughly $50,000 and was paid for through club fundraisers such as concessions at the Olds Agricultural Society Grounds, casinos and auctions.
She expected the playground to reopen to the public sometime this week.
