OLDS — A 25-year-old prolific offender already facing a raft of property crime offences in the Sundre area, now faces another 11 charges after police received complaints about an abandoned truck in Olds.

The Sundre-area man is expected to appear before a justice of the peace on the most recent charges in Canmore tomorrow (Aug. 26).

Police began investigating after receiving complaints from the public about an abandoned truck at the John Deere dealership in Olds. It was determined that the truck had been stolen from Camrose.

A witness told police that the driver of the truck was staying at a nearby motel. As a result, Daniel Peter Conway was arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Conway faces:

• one charge each of theft over $5,000 and theft under $1,000;

• two charges of possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000;

• two charges of possession of stolen property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5,000;

• three charges of failing to comply with release order conditions;

• one charge of driving an uninsured motor vehicle on a highway; and

• one charge of improper use of a licence plate.

A bail hearing was held for Conway and he remains in custody pending the Aug. 26 appearance.

Sundre RCMP had recently charged Conway with eight offences after responding to a break and enter at a lease site southwest of Sundre on Aug. 4. Police subsequently seized stolen property with an estimated value in excess of $150,000 from a Bearberry-area property where a truck stolen from the lease site was eventually located.

Conway had also been charged earlier this spring and had at that time been released on bail with several conditions after being arrested for a number of offences including breaking and entering with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and assault on a police officer with a weapon.

“We can now probably label him as a prolific offender,” Cpl. Resus Organ, acting commander of the Sundre RCMP, told The Albertan after the Aug. 4 incident.

RCMP are continuing their investigation into the Olds incident and are asking the public to come forward with any information related to this matter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Olds RCMP at 403-556-3323 or their local police service.
