Area 4-H clubs hold annual show and sale

The local 4-H Clubs of Olds Beef and Eagle Multi held their achievement day on May 9 at the Olds Cow Palace. Dr. Aaron Grant was the conformation judge for the day with Jared Hunter officiating the Showmanship and Grooming classes.

Twenty-three steers were shown and sold for both clubs with a sales average of $1.73/lb. Interclub Grand Champion Steer was won by Alex Roemmele of the Eagle club – purchased by Pioneer Veterinary Services. Interclub Reserve Champion Steer was won by Isaac Latimer of the Olds 4-H club – purchased by Pengrowth Energy, with Bryce McLean winning Reserve Club Champion from the Eagle Club – purchased by Mike Evans and Quinci Jones winning Reserve Club Champion from the Olds Club- purchased by Stevens Jewellers. Female awards were also won by: Interclub Grand Champion Female – awarded to Quinci Jones of Olds Beef and Interclub Reserve Champion Female – awarded to Clayton Whiteside of Eagle Multi.

Westview Co-op Olds Eagle Hill/Carstairs; Sobeys, B&M Hardware and Furniture; Mountainview Credit Union; Olds Dodge Chrysler Jeep; Western Financial Insurance; Savory Meats and Sausages; Olds Fertilizer; Kemo Ridge Farms/Chapman and Associates Accounting; G&L Bulk / Blue Wave Energy; Canadian Hay and Silage/ Olds Association for Community Living; Kerik Meats; John Deere Agro; Remitall Farms/Jim Cruikshank; Masterfeeds Canada; and Didsbury Meats all bought steers.

B&M Hardware; Western Financial; G&L Bulk; Olds Dodge; Olds Electric and Steven's Jewellers bought steers and donated them to the Mountain View Food Bank. The sale was auctioned by Rosehill Auction Services.
