Contractors may come to the Community Learning Campus this week to assess the flood damage to the north gym and the multi-purpose room at the Ralph Klein Centre.
The work will be done as part of repairing the floor in the north gym and wrestling room that were damaged when water leaked into the structure during a thunderstorm on June 29. A cap on a downspout behind a wall near the wrestling room came off during the storm, allowing water to flow into the gymnasium.
Until contractors assess the damage, college officials are unsure of the dollar figure required to replace the flooring in the multi-purpose room and sections of the north gym, said Connie Conley, director of corporate and client services at the campus. The affected flooring in the north gym will be replaced and the entire floor will be sanded and refinished.
"We don’t have any estimates in yet, but we do know the (flooring in) the multi-purpose room, that will be replaced. There’s no salvaging that," she said.
Conley said it’s not certain when replacing the floor might take place, other than to say it would be sometime later this summer.
She also said no programs will be affected by the unavailability of the north gym, as there is still enough unaffected space at the Ralph Klein Centre and elsewhere in the community that programs scheduled to take place at the campus will still proceed as planned.
"The summer camps that are coming in all have enough gymnasium space. The summer groups are all right," she said.
