OLDS — Olds RCMP, along with several partner agencies are hosting a Get Your Bike Ready For School event on Aug. 20.
School-aged youth under the age of 18 are encouraged to bring their bikes to the gazebo in Centennial Park between noon and 4 p.m. on Friday Aug. 20.
Members of Olds RCMP, Olds municipal enforcement and Olds Fire Department will be there to help youth understand the laws and guidelines around safe bike operation.
A technician from Revival Bike Works will also be on hand to make sure bikes are in good working order.
All youth under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet, Olds RCMP Cst. Morley Statchuk says.
As a result, if necessary, youth attending the event will receive assistance adjusting their helmet to make sure it will protect them in case of an emergency.
Statchuk also says bells are required to be on bikes.
“We have a number of bells on hand and will install a bell onto a bike as required,” he said in a news release.
