Bowden's 2012 budget nearly set

Bowden town council will be considering the town's 2012 budget at its next meeting on April 9, when administration will present the budget for adoption.

Andy Weiss, the town's chief administrative officer, said long-range planning for infrastructure, town equipment and training for staff were some of the items that town officials feel need attention in this year's budget.

“I've been involved with council budgets for a number of years now in various capacities and this budget, council went through line by line … in a very thorough fashion to literally save $10 if that's what we could save. This is a very accurate budget and it reflects that we're all cognizant that costs are going up everywhere,” he said, noting that where costs needed to go up, those items were included.

Other non-essential items were cut from the budget this year.

“Where savings could be had, we pursued those savings vigorously,” Weiss said.

Town receives provincial government funding

The town received confirmation from the provincial government that it will be receiving $74,160 under the Basic Municipal Transportation Grant for street improvements in 2012. It will also be receiving $68,882 in federal gas tax funds for transportation projects.
