Canada Day celebrations drew big crowds in Olds

People in Olds swarmed sidewalks along Canada Day parade route followed by family-friendly activities at Centennial Park including a comedic magical performance

OLDS – Canada Day dawned bright and sunny in Olds.

Just after 10 a.m., the parade began. Crowds swarmed the sidewalks along the route, cheering the many floats as kids scrambled for the candy tossed by those marching in the procession.

At 11 a.m., activities began in Centennial Park. Entertainment on the bill included the Red Deer Aboriginal Dance Troupe, magician/comedian Christopher Cool and local band Girl Crush.

Crowds strolled along the walking path while kids played in bouncy castles. Hot dogs, cookies and water were going fast.

By about 1:30 p.m., the sky turned dark, thunder rumbled and rain began to fall. Shortly afterward, a tornado warning was issued for the region, alarming the crowd, but the alert was cancelled at 2:45 p.m. Visit Alberta's emergency alerts for updates.
