An Olds College arboriculture student who fell nearly 17 metres from a tree in March was transferred to the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre (WHSC) earlier this month where he is "stable and doing well," a spokeswoman for the centre said on April 10.
Blaine Jack, who is in his early 20s and is from Altona, Man., apparently clipped into the wrong loop or harness and fell while carrying out training activities near the top of a fir tree located beside the campus water tower on March 27.
After a ground ambulance transported him to the Olds Hospital and Care Centre, Jack was airlifted by STARS air ambulance to Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre.
His injuries from the fall were described as broken bones and a concussion and he was expected to recover from the fall.
The WHSC spokeswoman was not able to provide information on when Jack was moved from Calgary to Winnipeg, but she did say he will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Winnipeg in the near future.
The college has stated it will look at safety and protocols surrounding arboriculture activities on campus.
