To complement its recently launched shop local campaign, the Olds and District Chamber of Commerce has introduced a new program meant to recognize local employees who give customers exceptional service.
Consumers are asked to nominate employees from local businesses who go above and beyond in assisting them for the chamber’s Exceptional Customer Service Award and each month a committee will meet to decide the winner.
Doug Rieberger, the chamber’s president, said the program launched in March and offers local employees "timely recognition" of their outstanding service since it is a monthly program.
"It was a better way to recognize exceptional customer service as opposed to waiting for once a year to try and nominate someone or remember when you had exceptional customer service," he said.
Monthly winners will receive a certificate and all recipients will have their names put forward for an employee-of-the-year prize.
Rieberger said the program will recognize employees from businesses that are part of the chamber and those that are not.
"If anybody’s had exceptional customer service that they would take the time to nominate that person for the award because not only is it a good thing for (the employee), it gives recognition to the businesses that are working hard to make sure that their employees are giving good customer service."
The program’s first award winner is David (Wei) Ruan who works at Preferred RX Pharmacy.
Consumers can nominate employees at www.oldsalberta.com.
Last month, the chamber also launched its Member to Member (M2M) Shop Local – Shop Olds program where participating businesses belonging to the chamber will offer special promotions or discounts for the employees of local businesses.
