Construction going well at college hotel site

Construction on the Pomeroy Inn and Suites is going well, despite falling behind earlier in the season, the chain's project analyst of construction said last week.

“We started out pretty slow, got hit with some weather early on and definitely we were delayed probably five weeks…. But since we started, we're probably at the maximum three weeks behind schedule so our framers and subcontractors on site have really helped us out. We're really comfortable with the trades we have on site, and all of our on-site staff have been actually catching up,” said Nick Cheveldave.

The target opening date of July 5, 2013 is well within reach, Cheveldave said, as workers will be continuing on the project throughout the winter.

The west side of the project is framed, roofed and shingled with plumbing rough-in underway and insulation and drywall to get underway in the next one to two weeks.

“In addition to that, the electrical rough-in has started, they've actually completed the second floor (construction) and moved on to the third floor, should be done by the end of the week, so that part of it is really moving along well,” Cheveldave said.

As for the east side, the framing is complete with other parts of the project progressing.

The 83-room hotel will also include a 650-square-foot fitness room, restaurant and lounge area, a business centre, plus 6,000 square feet of conference space. To aid with the Canadian Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship, two commercial kitchens are being built at the site. A pool and hot tub are also being included at the hotel.
