Olds RCMP are urging drivers to make sure they're fully rested when driving after they dealt with an accident in which fatigue appears to have played a major role.
On April 15, 2016 at 12:23, Olds RCMP attended a single-vehicle collision on Highway 2 about half a kilometre north of the Olds overpass.
A small truck had collided with the centre wire barricade separating the north- and southbound lanes.
“Investigation revealed that no intoxicating substances were involved, however the driver admitted to having nodded off,” RCMP say. “Driving while fatigued decreases awareness and impairs judgment in a way similar to alcohol or drugs.”
No charges were laid as a result of this collision.
RCMP have the following advice for drivers:
· Sleep well prior to long road trips.
· Share the driving with other passengers.
· Take regular rest stops every couple of hours and do some exercise.
· When stopped, eat light meals or fruit throughout the journey.
· Drink plenty of water.
· If you feel tired during the trip, stop to nap for 20 to 40 minutes.
