Results of a visioning and design workshop for east Olds will be coming back to residents for further feedback later in late June or early July following a session held at the Elks Hall on Thursday night.
About 20 people showed up for the session, which discussed several questions and ideas about how the area has changed over the past few years and how it might look in another 20. People were invited to offer their comments about what they like about the area currently, and what could happen to make the area better in the future.
Following that session, a series of 45 slides of different forms of urban development were shown to participants, who were asked to rate whether they liked or disliked those forms on a sliding scale. Participants were given only eight seconds each to review each of the slides and mark their impressions.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, JoleneTejkl, a planner with Parkland Community Planning Services, who led a portion of the workshop, said some excellent feedback was given at the session.
“The visioning, I think, there was great conversation that was had. It was really nice for people to get together and talk about some of the factors of design. With the design options workshop, I thought it was really nice to see … what people were attracted to and what they weren't,” she said.
Tejkl said the next steps will include putting together the feedback and assessing themes that came from the evening and giving that information to a steering committee working on the plan.
“With the design component, we're going to be looking at developing some design criteria to reflect what … they found attractive,” she said.
