Live musicians in Centennial Park, a sidewalk sale, the Taste of Uptowne Olds, awards for the best gardens in the community and a family-friendly triathlon are just some of the events taking place on Sept. 21 during the Olds Harvest Festival.
The event, co-hosted by several groups including the Communities in Bloom committee, is designed to help celebrate the end of summer. The event will run between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“It's to celebrate the end of summer and all the bounty that comes with summer. And we want to celebrate a multi-generational day to come out and have some fun. We really want to honour the people who spend time in their yards,” said Gerda Vester, chair of the Communities in Bloom committee. “That's really important for us to make sure that people know that their work is appreciated.”
One award for the best garden in each of five different areas in town will be handed out. The awards will be presented at 1 p.m. at the gazebo in Centennial Park.
The triathlon includes a 50-metre swim, two-kilometre bike ride and two-kilometre run/walk for children aged five and up will finish in Centennial Park. There are still spaces available in the event. People can call 403-556-2466, email [email protected] or go to www.runningroom.com to register.
Other things happening during the festival include vendors setting up along the east side of Centennial Park, Communities in Bloom judging the best apple pie, best jam, strangest-shaped vegetable and largest sunflower head. A scarecrow contest is also planned. All those events are scheduled to take place at the park.
