A fundraising event for 15-year-old McKenzie Robbie, an Olds High School student diagnosed in November with leukemia, will be taking place on April 12 at the Olds College Alumni Centre.

A live and silent auction will be taking place with items such as autographed photos of Jarome Iginla, a whitewater rafting tour courtesy of Otter Rafting Adventures in Sundre, tickets to Cirque De Soleil shows and party packages, among many other items.

The Western Sunsetters and Friends will also be entertaining the crowd. A late lunch will also be served.

Robbie has been in treatment at the Alberta Children's Hospital since her diagnosis.

”She has had a few passes (out of the hospital) but very few. Her mom (Staci), has been spending her days and nights at her side, as you can imagine a young girl needs her mom,” said Jaimee Karmazinuk, one of the organizers of the fundraising event.

McKenzie's classmates at OHS have been involved in raising funds, as have Deer Meadow School and Ecole Olds Elementary School students.

“There's been lots of things happening around the community of Olds and the community has just been amazing in their support thus far,” Karmazinuk said.

Tickets for the event are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. They are available at Bean Brokers, Tedd's Food Mart, Kit and Kargo, OHS and Accredited Supports to the Community.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the entertainment and auctions to take place between 7 and 11 p.m.
