Library receives technology donation

The connected communities committee of the Olds Institute (OCCC) has donated more technology to the Olds Municipal Library.

The connected communities committee of the Olds Institute (OCCC) has donated more technology to the Olds Municipal Library.

The additions include a 3D doodler, a VHS to DVD converter, two iPad minis for loan, a Samsung tablet for loan, and an iPad for the children's area. Also, the committee sponsored a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud for use at the library.

The donation augments the technology already in place in the Glenn McCracken Makerspace.

“We are happy to work with the Olds Connected Communities Committee to help people satisfy their curiosity for technology,” library manager Lesley Winfield says. “It will go a long way in helping our community residents realize their creativity and have new experiences with cutting edge technology.”

Olds Institute officials say the connected community committee is committed to “raising the culture of use of technology” in the community, both for citizens and for businesses.

Over the past several years they have supported technology trade shows, “champions of technology” and other technology courses in the community, along with video contests.

“The committee recognizes that the library is a central location where people can experience and try these new tools,” a news release says.

“The OCCC is honored to be able to assist our progressive, local library in achieving such forward-minded goals and programs,” OCCC chair Adam Gaboury says.

“The Olds library's direction aligns with our committee's goal of promoting a culture of technology use. We are proud to stand behind such a positive, synergistic bond.”
