OLDS — On Sept. 17 and 18, the Uptowne area of Olds will be jam packed with Alberta Culture Days activities.
Also “on tap” is Oldstoberfest, the world’s first Bavarian Rodeo, which will be held primarily at the Olds Regional Exhibition Grounds Friday evening and Saturday during that weekend.
Alberta Culture Days activities will mostly be held at Centennial Park, although an improv group will perform at the Mountain View Museum on Saturday as well.
It all begins Saturday Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. in Centennial Park when opening ceremonies take place.
Then, throughout the day, the park will host Indigenous teaching and tipi raising, the Red Deer Aboriginal Dance Troupe, Metis dancers, the Innisfail Pipe Band, baton twirlers and the Honan Shaolin Dragon Dancers.
The Oldstoberfest Rodeo Queens are expected to make an appearance at about 2:45 p.m.
At 3 p.m., Roads 2 Rhythm will begin.
“Bring your percussion instruments from your culture and join in,” the Town of Olds website says. “Drumming is international, every culture makes a beat. We can gather all people together to drum together like our hearts beat as one.”
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. visitors can check out various cultural booths set up in Centennial Park.
Also on Saturday, the Mountain View Museum & Archives and the Olds Municipal Library will team up to present a historical play featuring an improv group.
Performances will be held at 12 noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
However, if you're interested in catching one of these performances, it’s recommended that you pre-register by calling the museum at 403-556-8464, because seating is limited.
On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Tipi set up in Centennial Park will host children’s stories and sharing circles from 10 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m.
