Man arrested with laptop stolen from college

Police said an 18-year-old Didsbury man was arrested on March 1 and charged with stolen property after he was allegedly found with a laptop stolen from Olds College last July.

Police said an 18-year-old Didsbury man was arrested on March 1 and charged with stolen property after he was allegedly found with a laptop stolen from Olds College last July.The laptop belongs to Chinook's Edge School Division, police said, but it's unknown if the person caught with the computer knew it was stolen.Police are currently investigating the thefts of three laptops from the Bell e-Learning Centre on campus in January.One was stolen on Jan. 24 and two were stolen on Jan. 27 and the laptops belonged to school division and college employees.A school division employee told the Olds Albertan in January there was no forced entry to the room or rooms where the laptops were stolen.The laptops were encrypted and school division and college employees said there is no risk of anyone accessing sensitive data.Last month, the school division announced it had put a new information security management system in place to protects students, teachers and others making use of digital technology in [email protected]
