Olds College opened its doors on the weekend to prospective students and the community for an inside look at what the college has to offer.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, visitors were able to explore Olds College's campus and buildings, view the residences and student lifestyle facilities, and witness other special open house events occurring throughout the day.
Admitted students were invited to attend a special President's lunch and an opportunity to meet faculty. As well, there was to be a dedicated presentation for prospective students.
Saturday's attractions included plenty from the College's School of Trades and Career Studies including an antique tractor display, access to heavy equipment operator simulators, and an auto steer demo where a GPS driving guide could be programmed to enable a farm implement to drive itself.
In the School of Environment, the always-popular annual Greenhouse Sale took place. Among the many plants available, this year featured a sale of duplicate orchids from the college's collection – some quite unusual and all at below-standard prices.
The theme of this year's student fashion show, held every year by the School of Business' fashion students, was “Walk the Plank.”
Held at the Community Learning Campus' Fine Arts and Multimedia Centre, the fashion show was free. A silent auction and 50/50 draw was held to support the cost of the show.
Other attractions included horse and wagon rides and a farm tour, carpentry project sales, equine demonstrations including cow work and jumping demonstrations, the world's first-and-fastest canola biodiesel jet car, meat sales, arborist climbing demos, and animal health technology displays.
