Muddy, muddier and muddiest

The first annual Mud Run on Saturday at the Community Learning Campus was deemed a successful event, with about 700 people, some from as far away as Manitoba and the United States, coming to participate.

“We got really dirty … and had a ball and it was just a fantastic event in terms of the CLC and getting the community involved in our facility. It was just a lot of fun,” said Brittany Ehmann, the organizer of the event.

Ehmann said those who came out had an excellent time, with organizers getting great feedback about the event, which will go toward planning the 2013 version.

Ehmann said the plan is to make the obstacles a little bigger next year and to have more run volunteers to be able to handle even more participants.

Plans will also be drawn up to scale down some of the obstacles to make it more child friendly and get them involved as well. Ehmann said the target next year is to have about 1,000 people participating.

“It is a total family event and something everybody can have fun at, all fitness levels. It's a really good event for the CLC to host because it brings in people from across Canada and really shows them what the CLC is about,” she said.

The run encompassed five kilometres and included numerous obstacles, including bales, mud pits and rope swings.
