With the expected completion of the Mount View Lodge only a few weeks away, the public was invited last week to take a tour of the new facility.
With that, the Mountain View Seniors Housing Foundation is recruiting new members for projects throughout the region. Two new members recently joined the seven other members that have been carrying the foundation for the last couple of years, explained chair Elaine Taylor. Ideally, the foundation would have about 15.
ìWe've found, that when you're sitting on a huge fundraising (goal) Ö there's so many little things that need to be done, so that's why it was tough. Now that this thing is happening, I think we've gotten the interest back in the community again. We know now that we're going forward,î she said.
The foundation, which raises funds for furnishings and other non-capital items, has raised $150,000 for the Mount View Lodge thus far. The goal is $300,000.
ìHopefully once we get this place running and we have more residents, we're going to get more interest in the foundation because they'll have a parent or parents in here. And that's what we need,î she said.
Taylor said the service clubs have done an excellent job in raising funds.
ìThey've all been great contributors,î she said.
Anyone interested in joining the foundation ó which takes in members from Olds, Didsbury, Sundre, Carstairs and Cremona ó can contact Sam Smalldon, interim chief administrative officer of Mountain View Seniors' Housing at (403) 335-8404.
