Council approved a new logo for the Town of Olds at its meeting on May 9.
“It is extreme. It's very, very futuristic and we believe we're going to move forward … leading by example. We believe now we're at the stage to test (the logo),” Mayor Judy Dahl said, noting that the town's focus on sustainability is reflected in the new logo.
The new logo is part of a three-phase program the town is currently conducting to promote the community of Olds. The new logo will gradually be introduced on all types of applications, with letterhead and nametags to be changed over first, followed by the town flag, vehicles and several other different types of applications.
The latter applications will be provided for in the town's future budgets beginning in 2012.
A second phase of the plan is a new communications strategy for the town, while the third phase is to update the town's website.
Mayor Judy Dahl said the new logo represents a change in thinking and a more futuristic view of the town.
“We're very happy that a team of young adults were the ones that designed this logo. We have to step out of our box of the past and move forward (and) change the way we think,” she said.
Dahl said keeping the overall goal in mind made it easier to accept the change in the town's graphic representation.
The town contracted McRobbie Optamedia from Edmonton to do the work.
