OLDS — If anyone's feathers have been ruffled by the raising of chickens in town, mayor Judy Dahl hadn’t heard about it, at least by Christmastime.
Dahl made that comment during a year-end interview with the Albertan.
In fact, Dahl said she was not even aware at that time if anyone actually was raising chickens in the community.
Revisions to two of the Town of Olds bylaws, land use and community standards, were approved last April to set out rules for raising chickens in town.
"I haven’t even seen or heard any of them (chickens) in town. Have you?” Dahl asked.
Town officials have indicated there are indeed some chicken-raisers in the community. The new rules say they have until Jan. 1, 2023 to comply with the new rules.
If people are upset about chicken-raising in town, they hadn’t squawked to Dahl about it by Christmastime, anyway.
“I'm certain there has to be people who actually have them, but I’m not – I have had no complaints whatsoever in that area,” she said.
