“Our thoughts go out to those affected to the south of us to those tornado touchdown events – awful to see,” said Brent Williams

OLDS — Town of Olds' chief administrative officer relayed sympathy on behalf of the community for all those affected by the Canada Day tornado.

On July 1 a tornado ripped through an area north of Carstairs in Mountain View County, destroying several homes and damaging many others. Luckily no one was badly hurt, but a lot of livestock was killed or injured.

“Our thoughts go out to those affected to the south of us to those tornado touchdown events – awful to see,” Brent Williams said during town council’s July 4 policies and priorities meeting.

“It’s -- yeah, it’s never a fun time, but glad to support when we can and wish them all the best as they put things back together," he added.

Environment Canada has pegged the force of the tornado as EF4, making it the strongest to hit Western Canada since the tornado that ravaged a portion of Edmonton in 1987.
