Olds man killed in collision while walking

RCMP are continuing to investigate a vehicle-pedestrian collision that claimed the life of an Olds resident in Cochrane on Canada Day.

RCMP are continuing to investigate a collision between a pedestrian and a side-by-side in Cochrane that claimed the life of an Olds man late on Canada Day evening.

OLDS — RCMP are continuing to investigate a vehicle-pedestrian collision that claimed the life of an Olds resident in Cochrane on Canada Day. 

Cochrane RCMP were called to the scene on Highway 743 at Hunter Valley Road near Cochrane at about 11:35 p.m. 

“Upon arrival, it was determined that the pedestrian, a 42-year-old male resident of Olds, was hit from behind by a side-by-side (off-road vehicle) while he was walking,” RCMP public information officer Cpl. Gina Slaney said in a news release. 

Slaney said the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the side-by-side also sustained injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital but has since been released.    

“The investigation continues,” the release says. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased."
