OLDS — A Rotary Athletic Park washroom has been hit by graffiti and Olds RCMP are asking for the public's help to solve the case.

The brand new park, officially opened early this fall, is located along 70th Avenue.

In a news release issued today (Dec. 15), Olds RCMP Cst. Morley Statchuk said on Dec. 10 a resident walking in the park early in the morning noticed that the female washroom door was open. The resident looked inside and found red, spray-painted graffiti on the walls.

The male washroom was also entered; however, its walls were not spray-painted.  Both washrooms had been locked for the winter with the water turned off on Oct. 27.

“Some of the walls are spray-painted with some designs and some of the light fixtures were spray-painted and some of the doors had some spray paint on them,” Statchuk said during an interview.

He said the graffiti didn’t appear to feature any gang symbols.

“What was spray-painted was kind of like some triangles and some dice were spray-painted. The fluorescent light fixtures, half of them were kind of painted.

"The bathroom door had some kind of just spray paint – almost some white spray paint on top of it, it looks like,” Statchuk said.

“But yeah, nothing really that I can see is a gang symbol or even a graffiti tag. It was just random.”

Statchuk said they don’t have any surveillance video from the area and it’s unclear what day or time of day between Oct. 28 and Dec. 10 the offence occurred. That makes the investigation challenging.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Olds RCMP at 403-556-3323 or your local police service.
