Bowden Institution was locked down for about 24 hours after a knife went missing last week.
“It was a kitchen knife that had gone missing from our private family visiting unit,” said Rita Wehrle, assistant warden of management services. The knife was found as a result of the search, she said.
The lockdown and search started Oct. 15 at about noon and ended Oct. 16 according to press releases issued by Correctional Service of Canada.
During the search visits were suspended.
The search was considered “exceptional” because it wasn't a routine one.
“We do lots of routine searches,” Wehrle said.
Visits were reinstated Oct. 16 after the lockdown was complete. Werhle said that happens once it's deemed safe for staff and inmates.
