OLDS — Water restrictions are no longer in effect, thanks to a water tank relining project finishing faster than anticipated.
But residents should still conserve water whenever possible anyway, town officials say.
“Although watering restrictions have lifted, hot weather and local drought conditions have been severe," a town news release says. “Residents are reminded it is always wise to conserve water.”
Water restrictions went into effect this spring while a project was undertaken to reline the town’s north reservoir.
The 500,000 litre concrete cistern provides a backup source of water that could be access if needed, due to a fire or a major loss of water.
A $532,270 project to reline that reservoir began May 13 and was expected to last until early August. However, it was completed well ahead of schedule on July 21 and under budget, town officials say.
Town officials say the project will extend the lifespan of the reservoir for many years.
