Organizers of Olds' inaugural Relay for Life, a major fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, are still looking for teams, volunteers and survivors.The event takes place from 7 p.m. on May 2 to 7 a.m. on May 3 at the Community Learning Campus soccer field and Nancy Kumm, a revenue development coordinator for the society's Alberta/Northwest Territories division, said so far 10 teams have signed up for the relay.Organizers, she said, are looking for at least 15 teams.Kumm also said 29 people have committed to volunteer at the event and organizers are hoping to attract at least 50 volunteers.The 12-hour relay kicks off at 7 p.m. with a Survivors' Lap where participants who have beaten cancer head out for the first circuit.Kumm said organizers are hoping for at least 20 survivors to take part in the event.Teams, volunteers and survivors can sign up at www.relayforlife.ca up until May 1 or they can register at the event.The fee for registering a team of 10 to 15 people is $15 and each team member must raise $100 in pledges.Anyone interested in providing entertainment at the relay can email [email protected] are hoping to raise $35,000 for the society through the Olds relay.Kumm said the community is also invited to a fundraising barbecue at 5 p.m. prior to the start of the relay at the soccer field.
