Town council passed an amendment to the Richardson Area Structure Plan last week, adding a 1.3-acre park in the southeast quarter section of the area known as the Highlands.
A public hearing, in which nobody came forward to speak on the issue, was held prior to second and third reading being passed.
Asked by Coun. Mary Jane Harper when a road going to the area might be established, Larry Wright, the town's director of operations, said the town is waiting for the developer to complete drainage and other tasks before opening a road in the area. Wright told councillors that the park is a neighbourhood amenity and won't have ball diamonds there. The adjacent Holy Trinity School playground will have a ball diamond, and will begin development later this month.
Council gave first reading to the amendment in July when Richardson Brothers, who are developing the property, asked for the amendment to allow for a green space that was central to the development. They also indicated that they were ready to move forward with servicing Phase 3 lots.
“This is over and above their dedication (of green space),” Wright said.
Now that the amendment is complete, Wright said town officials and the developer will discuss development agreements to allow the project to move forward.
