The 2012-2013 Olds High School year is soaring with expectation to be a great one.

The Canadian Student Leadership Conference was held in Saskatchewan this year. Three students and three staff from Olds attended, returning with big plans for the rest of the year.

On Oct. 11 the students of Olds High braved the weather and participated in the Terry Fox Run. Approximately $1,300 was raised for cancer research, with Erin Schultz and Samantha Statchuck as our top raisers.

Ian Tyson visited on Oct 18. His “hero inside” presentation had the school in hysterics, while still producing a powerful message to the student body.

On Oct. 19, to raise awareness for bullying, student council arranged an in-school bake sale. All proceeds were donated to Kids Help Phone, adding to our charitable school year start.

But student council isn't the only organization hard at work.

The Olds High Drama Club has been dedicating their time to their winter production of The Sound Of Music.

Director Rhonda West says over 75 students are active in the play preparations. Cast and crew, along with the support of various adults from the community are preparing for the rapidly approaching opening night on November 23. Tickets are available online at Kiwanis.org or by calling Olds High School.

After only two months of school, it's clear that everyone is excited to be back.
