Approximately $2,000 was raised from a recent dog walk event in Olds for the development of an animal shelter in the region.
“We did quite well,” said Brittney Ehmann, fitness programmer at the Community Learning Campus fitness centre. “It was a great turnout.”
One hundred and ten people along with 63 dogs participated in the July 21 Strut Your Mutt event.
Proceeds from the walk are being given to the Wild Rose Humane Society.
The society has an ongoing capital campaign to develop an animal shelter in the region.
Support for this year's second annual Strut Your Mutt event was fantastic, said Ehmann.
Last year, 75 people took part, raising about $900.
This year, not only did participation increase but so did community group and business sponsorship.
“We couldn't have done it without them. Their support was much appreciated,” she said.
The buy-in shows the support for the creation of an animal shelter in the area, she added.
The Wild Rose Humane Society is based in Airdrie and began The Give Me Shelter capital campaign as a means of raising funds for an animal shelter that will serve the communities in the corridor between Airdrie and Olds.
More than $20,000 has been raised so far.
