Although there will be a three-way race for the mayor's seat in Olds, all council positions in Olds and Bowden have been acclaimed.

When the deadline for filing nomination papers for the Oct. 21 municipal election passed at noon on Sept. 23, incumbents Mary Jane Harper, Harvey Walsh, Debra Bennett and Wade Bearchell, as well as newcomers Mary Anne Overwater and Rudy Durieux, were acclaimed for council in Olds.

Councillors Arvin Bull and Murray Ball had announced earlier this year they would not run again.

Current mayor Judy Dahl, however, will face challenges from Shirley Schultz and Art Baker.

The Olds Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates forum on Oct. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pomeroy Inn and Suites.

Advanced polls for Olds take place in council chambers at Town Hall on Oct. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Polling stations on election day, Oct. 21, will be set up at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion at 5241 46 St. from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Bowden, Mayor Robb Stuart was acclaimed and current councillors Sheila Church, Sandy Gamble and Wayne Milaney will also return to the council table.

Former Bowden councillors Earl Wilson and Lloyd Lane and former Sundre councillor Paul Webb will replace Cory Jasper and Patrick Doll.

This is the first year in Alberta where mayors and councillors will serve four-year terms.
