Town's 2013 election expenses not disclosed

Mayor Judy Dahl or her two challengers in the 2013 municipal election were not required to disclose their campaign expenses because they spent under $10,000 and did not receive contributions from others.

Mayor Judy Dahl or her two challengers in the 2013 municipal election were not required to disclose their campaign expenses because they spent under $10,000 and did not receive contributions from others.

According to the Local Authorities Election Act, candidates may spend up to $10,000 of their own money on a campaign without it being considered a contribution.

The act also states if a campaign is funded exclusively by a candidate’s own funds, filing a disclosure statement is not required.

March 21 was the first day campaign expense records, had any been filed, were available to the public.

Dahl defeated Art Baker and Shirley Schultz to win her fourth term as mayor in October.

All six Olds councillors were acclaimed and thus no records were filed.

The entire Bowden council was also acclaimed.
