An Olds RCMP officer says an 18-year-old Bowden woman hit by a train in Olds is still recovering in hospital.“She's responding well to treatment in hospital,” Cpl. Mike Black says. However, Black stresses he does not have a formal medical update on her condition. The woman was hit by a train while sitting on the tracks with her boyfriend at about 3 a.m. Aug. 3 near 50th Avenue and Shannon Drive in Olds. Police, fire and ambulance personnel responded. She was transported to Olds Hospital and Care Centre with head injuries, then transferred to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary via STARS Air Ambulance. Her injuries were believed to be serious, but non-life-threatening at that time.Police say both the woman and her boyfriend were intoxicated at the time of the accident.Train movement along the tracks was suspended for a while before resuming. So far, it's too early to say if charges may be laid in connection with the collision, Black says. He notes Olds RCMP are continuing to collaborate with CP police in the investigation.“We're still waiting for video to come from the train. I know the lead investigator was speaking with the CP police just a few days ago,” Black says.As a result, he says, the investigation is likely to continue for a couple of weeks or so.“As soon as we get the video we should be able to determine if we're going to action anything from the Olds detachment,” Black says, adding they'll make sure they co-ordinate anything they might do with CP police.“There's no sense in both agencies doing the same thing,” he says.
