A sex offender who escaped from the Bowden Institution on the afternoon of May 4 was caught roughly 3.2 kilometres north of the prison that evening.
Maurice Rondeau, 64, who is serving a three-year sentence for sexual interference, was not present at a 4:30 p.m. count that day and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Police recaptured him at about 9:35 p.m. that evening.
The Correctional Service of Canada is investigating the incident.
Authorities issued a media release asking the public for help in finding the fugitive on May 4 but did not issue a release saying he was caught.
As a result, numerous media outlets were reporting on May 5 that Rondeau was still at large.
A spokesman for the institution said he was looking into why a second release was not issued to media.
