The Uptowne Olds committee passed a surplus budget on Sept. 18 at its monthly meeting. The group is projecting revenues of $99,403 and expenses of $96,750.
But $57,000 of the budget will depend upon grants, including four separate $10,000 grants from the Alberta Municipal Heritage Program.
Uptowne Olds is hoping it will receive grants from the program for heritage development, economic activities, marketing and building organizational capacity. If the committee doesn't get the $40,000, some of its marketing and other plans for 2014 will be scaled back, said Mitch Thompson, interim executive director of the Olds Institute For Community and Regional Development.
“The Uptowne membership contributes liberally to their causes through their membership drive. However, getting the support of government is essential to the success of many of our small communities, and this being one of them,” he said.
Now that the Uptowne Olds committee has passed the budget, it will go before the institute's board for approval at the institute's Oct. 15 meeting.
