Installation of new water lines in the uptown core was to begin this week, with completion slated for Sept. 10 to 17 if all goes according to plan.
Initially, traffic light removal and setting up a temporary four-way stop at 50 Street and 50 Avenue was slated to be done Monday, with fencing and underground crews coming to begin work today or Wednesday, speculated Larry Wright, the town's director of operations. Crews will also be installing utilities under the railroad tracks, as well.
“This should be the last portion of our rehab work for this year. We've already got a water main crossing under the 2A at 43 (Street),” he said, adding that paving and curb stops in other areas of town have already been completed.
“If we can get a good patch of good weather (the utility work) should go very quickly because they have their forces pretty well lined up because it involves (several different entities),” Wright said.
The town budgeted $1.5 million for the project.
A new sidewalk by the library and arena is also in the process of being installed.
