An Olds-area woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision west of Olds on the afternoon of Sept. 18. Police said an investigation into the crash revealed a Jeep Grande Cherokee heading south on Rge. Rd. 23 failed to stop at a stop sign and crossed into the path of a Dodge Ram pickup truck heading west on Highway 27 at about 3 p.m. The truck struck the driver-side of the jeep and both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on the southwest side of the intersection. Each vehicle was occupied only by the driver and the 71-year-old female driver of the jeep was extricated from her vehicle and taken from the scene to Foothills Medical Centre by a STARS air ambulance. Although police believe the woman was alive when emergency personnel removed her from the jeep, she did not survive her injuries. Police are not releasing the woman's name. The driver of the truck, a man from the Caroline area who is in his early 40s, did not sustain any serious injuries. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and the road was dry at the time. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and airbags in both vehicles deployed. No charges are being considered. Highway 27 was closed to traffic until after 6 p.m.
