Car dealers in Olds and area are still recovering from the damage inflicted by a savage hailstorm, although some got hit a lot harder than others.

Council approved the consolidation of two loans into a single $14-million loan made to the Olds Institute (OI) for the installation of the town's fibre network, at a special council meeting.

RCMP are investigating a string of break-ins and thefts that occurred in the Olds and Bowden area around the first week of August. Progress has been made on the theft of a truck, which occurred some time between 10 p.m. Aug. 4 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 5.

An insurance company says the claims it has received from a late July hailstorm in Olds dwarf those it has received from previous storms.

Olds RCMP are continuing to investigate an alleged robbery and assault involving a tire iron at the No Frills Liquor Store. Police say the incident occurred July 24 at about 9:55 p.m.

Another Olds councillor has tossed their hat into the ring for the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 16. Coun. Mary Anne Overwater announced last Friday that she would let her name stand for a second term on council.

BOWDEN ñ Town council has voted to postpone discussion on drainage problems in the alley behind Reddi Mart to a later meeting. Council has discussed the issue a couple of times, including with a resident who lives behind the store.

Olds RCMP say at least one charge may be laid in the wake of a two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of highways 2A and 27. Emergency crews were called to the scene at 10:37 a.m. Aug. 7.

The second annual Olds Gun and Antique show took aim in the Cow Palace this weekend, drawing an estimated 1,000 visitors to see the wares of 150 vendors.

Olds resident and musician Dustin Farr is spearheading a campaign to collect vegetables for the Calgary Food Bank at the Co-op parking lot on Aug. 22.
