Having attended the recent all-candidates election forum in Sundre, I much preferred the messages presented by the NDP and Green — even the Liberal — candidates.

Jimmy Carter turned 95 on Oct. 1. That same week the former American president suffered injuries from a fall at his home.

I would like to thank the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce for enabling local residents to attend the Oct. 2 forum featuring all five federal candidates . Public turnout was good, although I was disappointed not to see standing room only.

For a few years, we’ve been force-fed the notion that red meat and processed meat products threaten our health. But the protein war between the livestock industry and plant-based supporters has taken an interesting twist.

While forestry may not be the largest employer in the province, it is certainly just as vital to Alberta as the agriculture and oil and gas industries.

Utopian legislators in the United States often look with rose-tinted glasses upon the Canadian approach to everything, from higher education and medical care to global warming and international affairs.

Canadians will elect a new House of Commons on Oct. 21. We’ve already seen the political parties and their leaders staking out positions on an array of fundamental issues.
