Yes, there should be a "royal commission" type investigation into several allegations against Premier Smith's gov't. No, we can't allow her to investigate her own departments? That would be like hiring the fox to guard the chicken coop or hiring the Mafia to provide police protection. An outside independent committee should look into these allegations. If these allegation prove correct, "heads" should roll, including the premier. No one should be above the law. Hold people accountable for their negative actions.

"Robbing Peter to pay Paul". Cut in personal taxes while upping property taxes and user fees, eh? Specifically, how much is being allocated to private schools, besides the 70% funding they already receive from the gov't.? By the way, did Albertan have a say on funding private schools? On funding private businesses? How much, specifically, is being cut from social welfare programs such as AISH? Why did the gov't cut the use of photo radar by local municipal governments? Who benefits from such cuts? How will Calgary and Edmonton police forces make-up for the short-fall in their funding? Will the provincial gov't take up the slack now that police forces will see their operating costs cut?

How much money is being cut to private businesses (energy companies, private schools, etc)? How much money is being cut from MLAs' "per diem" allowances? For their out of province travel costs? For the maintenance of consulates in the US and abroad?

What is the status of the Heritage Trust Fund? When will the public receive periodic updates, like with banks and corporations, on that fund? How much of that fund has been spent on private businesses such on private schools and energy companies? How much of the budget is allocated to cutting "red tape" department? How much is spent on MLAs traveling go 3-4 day conferences in the US and abroad? How much is spent on Alberta consulates in the US and abroad? How much was spent on the proposed Alberta Pension Plan? On the high speed train study? On establishing a provincial police force? On creating political parties for local governments? Where is the so-called "transparency" of our politicians when it comes to spending public money on non-public endeavours?

There should be a "royal commission" or a non-partisan person or committee to investigate these allegations dealing with AHS, but to investigate the handling of the Alberta Heritage Trust Fund, on money spent sending Premier Smith and members of her gov't to Trump's inauguration, money spent on private schools and charter schools, money spent on promoting the Alberta Pension Plan, on promoting political parties in local gov't, sending members of Cabinet to various states in the US, on money spent in creating embassies in the US and in foreign countries, on money spent on promoting and establishing "extra" police forces (provincial police force), on its association with separatists, anti-vaccers and far right organizations and individuals (Tucker Carlson; Proud Boys; Oath Keepers, etc)., and on money spent supporting coal mining operations on the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies. It seems to me that Premier Smith is no longer listening to anyone but herself and her caucus.

Yes, Canadian boycott American goods and services. Support interprovincial trade although I heard that talk way back in the 1970s. Stop buying US-made military weapons. Increase trade with countries in Asia, Latin American, Africa and Europe. Buy and trade with others except with the US. See if the Americans like being isolated from its former allies (because of Trumpus Maximus's policies). Let Americans know we will not be bought, and we will not be bullied.

We Alberta to step-in with the rest of Canada in fighting Trump's trade war with us. We should not in any way support Trump's agenda. No special status with Trump's trade policies either. We are all Canadians, not any better than any other Canadian. Alberta should immediately open up trade (including oil, gas, coal, lumber, etc) with Asian countries, with Latin American countries and with European countries. Premier Smith should stop trying to copy American values. She should stop sending representatives to Florida and to all other "red states". We're Canadians. Alberta is a province not a "red state". If she doesn't like Canada, she should pack her bags and head to Florida or any other red state.

I do believe that the author failed to mention that many politicians (both Liberal and Conservatives) have done little (except to blow hot air) to inspire us about our country's history. We have seen very little discourse in our schools about the study of "current affairs". Why not? Answer: Too much political and religious interference in the study of our country's past (opposition to "woke" education). Some folks don't want us and our children to know about racism, bigotry and persecution. They want a "white-washed" version of Canadian history, politics, and religion. They have, in my opinion, been slowly undermining academic standards to foster their own version of "their world" as we have seen in "red states" in America. (and now with the mandates imposed by Trump's administration in the past two weeks. No more DEI).

I trust Premier D. Smith as far as I can chuck a bull elephant. I'm still waiting for the Minister of Finance to answer my letter pertaining to the Heritage Trust Fund and the budget (June 12, 2024). No reply from him or her. No answers to my question about funding private schools either although I did find out from doing research that private schools receiving 70% of their funding from the provincial gov't (did the Albertans vote on the matter?). Private can charge tuition on top of the gov't funding. Plus, they can receive tax credit since they are considered charities as well. Remember when she tried to "con" us into supporting her Alberta Pension Plan even though her gov't seems to have money on private businesses, travel expenses and on consulates in the US. but not for public services (which we all depend on).

Provincial and federal leaders should immediately work on establishing interprovincial trade in Canada. Many Canadians have been waiting for such open trade between province for decades. Folks were talking about this matter way back in the 1970s. Open up more trade with Latin American, Asian, African and European countries and cut back on trade with the US. Buy Canadian-made products and services instead of buying US products and services. Encourage expansion of Canadian agricultural products (like more breakfast cereals). Bottom line: Buy Canadian products, boycott US-made products and services and open more trade services with other countries. For example, stop buying US made weapons. Instead buy military weapons from our European allies. Cheaper in the long run.
