The Sundre Hospital Futures Committee hosted an afternoon earlier last month to recognize and celebrate the role rural nurses fulfill in providing quality medical care.

The committee baked some cookies and offered some refreshments.

“Our goal was to let the nurses in our hospital know that we appreciate all the extra work they have taken on lately with training updates,” said Gerald Ingeveld, a member of the committee.

“Being a nurse in a rural hospital requires a lot more training than in a larger centre. Rather than working on a certain ward with predictable activities, on any given day a rural nurse may move from an emergency room case to an obstetrics delivery, to the palliative care room, then over to long-term care, and back again.”
