The 14th annual 4-H and Sundre Search and Rescue food drive was held Dec. 7.
Members from the Bergen, Sundre and Red River 4-H Clubs came out to collect non-perishable food items for donations in support of Sundre Santas.
About 75 youths from the three clubs got involved in the effort, which gathered almost 500 kilograms (about 1,100 pounds) of food donations from the community. Helping to make possible the food drive were Darryl McGregor, Brian and Colleen Coleman, as well as Ken Musselman, who brought their horse and wagon teams to transport volunteers around town.
Members of the Sundre Fire Department provided flashing lights and extra attention. As always, Sundre IGA donated grocery bags for the food collections and Greenwood Neighbourhood Place helped out with advertising for the event. This year, Sundre Tim Hortons also supplied hot chocolate and Timbits to keep everyone warm and energized, and the Town of Sundre provided some extra sanding due to icy roads.
Of course, we are very grateful to everyone in the community for the donations of food items, and hope that everyone has a happy holiday season.
