Anyone who is interested in learning more about the proposed multi-million-dollar medicinal cannabis production facility will have an opportunity to do so at the end of the month.

A public open house and job fair has been scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, March 27 at the Sundre Community Centre to offer residents a chance to come meet in person Candre Cannabis president Jesse Beaudry as well as members of his team to ask questions, express concerns or perhaps even voice support.

“We're happy to hear it all,” he said.

“We will work hard to earn the respect of the community. I know those are just words, but that is our intent.”

People have a right to be skeptical, but Beaudry optimistically expressed confidence that given the chance, his company will rise to meet — if not exceed —the community's expectations. After all, submitting paperwork for permit applications is one thing, but earning the community's approval is another.

“Candre will be its strongest after a year, once people will have seen what we're doing and contributed to the community.”

While there would be numerous temporary job opportunities throughout the construction phase of the project, once completed and operational, the facility would to start require at least 50 permanent, well-compensated, full-time positions that offer competitive benefits, he said, stressing the importance of creating a culture that fosters a positive atmosphere.

“Our company will succeed if our people are engaged and proud of where they work,” he said.

“We hope there will be interest in working for us.”

While there will be some specialized positions such as a master grower, quality control as well as a cultivation and sanitation lead, the bulk of the hiring will be focused on the growing process, including tasks like trimming, drying, and packaging, he said, adding green thumbs with experience in horticulture will be sought out.

“They are ideal.”

The company is also dedicated to hiring local contractors such as, for example, fencers, electricians and sanitation services, he said.

“We are absolutely committed to hiring as local as possible,” he said.

Although he's from Calgary, Beaudry said he welcomes anyone who is so inclined to contact him by phone at 403-389-4689. Additionally, Candre's director of human resources and corporate services, Brittany Osberg, can be reached by calling 403-408-7751. Of course anyone who prefers digital correspondence can alternatively email [email protected].

“We're extremely proud of the company, and we're so excited to be working with the Town of Sundre — we welcome phone calls and we want them.”
