Signs deliberately run down: operations manager

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for reckless motorists who are intentionally running down signs along Main Avenue and to immediately report any such incidents to police.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for reckless motorists who are intentionally running down signs along Main Avenue and to immediately report any such incidents to police.

Jim Hall, Sundre’s operations manager, said there have been a few recent instances of pedestrian crossing, yield as well as roundabout advisory signs being deliberately driven down.

Hall urges anyone who witnesses such an occurrence to make a note of the offending vehicle’s licence plate and to promptly place a report with police.

The damage done not only represents a cost to taxpayers, but also creates a potentially dangerous situation because of missing signs that could result in traffic confusion and potentially collisions as well, he said.

The Sundre RCMP detachment’s Cpl. Joe Mandel said in an email that he had not heard of any signs being run down.

However, the corporal confirmed that the local police department had a recent file in which two males were charged for damaged signs near Swamp Donkeys.
