More than 100 people — not including nearly 20 models — attended the recent annual Miss Rodeo Sundre Fashion Show, the event’s coordinator said.

“We were very happy with that turnout,” said Bronwen Bowhay, who has been involved in the past as a volunteer but this year assumed the organizational reins for the first time.

All 100 tickets that were printed sold out, and several additional seats were squeezed in to accommodate a few extra people at the Sundre Arts Centre on Saturday, March 31. There were also 19 models who participated, including youths as well as adults.

Bowhay said she received plenty of positive input, and expressed her gratitude to everyone who took time out of their Easter long weekend to support the event.

“It wouldn’t be as fun as it is without a huge crowd.”

The fashion show helps to promote the start of the annual search for the next Miss Rodeo Sundre. There are three candidates in the running this year: Codi Wilson from Sundre; Jayden Calvert from Drayton Valley; and Jasmine Dahl who is from Carmangay but currently resides in Olds where she is pursuing post- secondary studies.

“It’s a great way for women to be able to get more involved in rodeo,” Bowhay said about Miss Rodeo Sundre, adding that the title opens the door to becoming an advocate for the Sundre Pro Rodeo while travelling around the province and promoting the community as well.

The fashion show raises funds to help cover travel expenses. Ideas are being bounced around in consideration of organizing another event this summer to provide additional support, she said.

Anyone who might be interested in helping out or offering some ideas is welcome to contact Bowhay at 403-638-6090, or by emailing [email protected].

Once the weather finally cooperates, next up will be the horsemanship competition, which typically tends to take place as soon as the snow is gone and the Sundre rodeo grounds become available, she said.

See a coming issue of the Round Up for feature coverage on this year’s candidates running for the Miss Rodeo Sundre title.
